Social Security: A Green Swindle of Another Type

Social Security was intended to prevent destitution among the elderly. Instead of serving that purpose it has become a program for redistributing wealth from young workers to often affluent seniors who are in no danger of falling into poverty. Social Security would work if it was viewed as a welfare program for only those seniors who were too stupid or unlucky to provide adequately for their retirement years. Means testing is the device by which this out-of-control program can be saved.

Silent: You are just another generation of give-me's if you would get out and work and pay into your SS like we older generation did you would have no gripe. No SS is not the best way to go but it helps when you are past the age of working and as of now no jobs are to be had for our age group you probably do not know that when SS was inacted that the wage was very low there was no big dollar an hour wage then we did the best we could do with what we had.

Silent: you are a nit wit. Are we suppose to give up what we have worked for and paid in to SS for young workers that half of them do not work anyway but still stand with their greedy hands out wanting
still to be kept up ? I am afraid that we have raised a generation of give-me's. Yes SS does need to be
reconstructed ,and the greedy government needs to keep their hands out of it and quit borrowing from it every time they need a few dollars. No Silent I think instead of the seniors being stupid If I were you I would look to yourself.

SS was intended for those whom """ paid into it """. The Government bet the recipients would die before collecting it and the recipients bet they would not. SS was solvent until a Damocrapic Congress moved the SS funds into the General funds to increase funding for Pork Barrel krap, Your socialist damocrapic party is reason SS is insolvent.

Exactly correct. It was Ok until the communist thieves got hold of it.

"Social Security is structurally sound. It's going to have to be tweaked the way it was by Ronald Reagan and Democratic Speaker Tip O'Neill. But the basic structure is sound."

So said Obama in his first presidential debate with Mitt Romney before moving on to another topic that he was more interested in discussing.

But the reality is that Social Security--the federal government's largest program--is not sound. And the "tweaks" Obama spoke of (from the Reagan-O'Neill years) include raising the retirement age, increasing social security taxes, and delaying cost of living adjustments. And those...
