Hagel is pro-moralty, Panetta's Lib-Dem-pro-deviant. It was reported that Hagel was against a pro-deviant Amb to Luxembourg. When he was a Senator, Hagel consistently voted against gay rights. Frmr US-Amb James Hormel has responded to frmr Senator Chuck Hagel's apology for his 1998 cmnts that argued gays were not fit to serve as diplomats. Those cmnts were directly in reference to Hormel, the 1st openly gay US-Amb. Hormel served as the US-Amb to Luxembourg. Way to go Hagel, Prove-em all wrong ! In 1998, Hagel told the Omaha World Herald: “Amb-posts need to be secure. They represent America, our lifestyles, values, standards. I think it's an inhibiting factor to be openly gay like Mr Hormel is, to do a better job.” Hagel was also a

longtime supporter of "don’t ask don’t tell," telling the NY-Times in 1999:

“The armed forces aren’t some social experiment.”

Gay rights groups are criticizing Hagel for Sec Def. In his apology to Hormel by Politico, Hagel said that his comments were “hurtful,”

apologized to gays in general, and affirmed his commitment to their civil rights.

Hormel said that Hagel’s comments, the nature of his apology raise ?'s as to whether he’s the right guy to ensure that the "repeal of don’t ask don’t tell" is fully implemented as quickly as possible in ways that'll have the least deleterious effect.”

Of Hagel’s cmnt, Hormel added:

“If it were made today, it'd be clearly disqualifying.”

10 US-Generals say that Chuck Hagel is qualified !

for the Senators to grill-harrass Hagel and all of Obama's appointees,

After he's confirmed he should be watched closely to keep him within the normal process of the job and to allay the concerns of the Senators who have been ?-ing his integrity and qualifications for the job.

"If" C-Hagel or B-Obama does something that they "really don't like" they can bring it to the forefront, forcing Hagel, Obama, to fix their policy or pay the political price !

It doesn't matter that much which of Obama's qualified choices for Defense-Sec is confirmed,

because whoever is Sec-Def has to get along, carry out the Presidents general-policy-related-orders related to that Fed-Govt-Dept !

C-Hagel has more to offer Conservatives than Obama's next choice !

Senate Republicans have at least temporarily blocked the confirmation of former Sen. Chuck Hagel as the next Secretary of Defense.  Democrats' cloture motion to proceed to an up-or-down vote failed 58-40, with one Senator voting "present."  Achieving cloture requires 60 votes.  Let's be candid: Hagel (a Republican) is unqualified for this job, which is arguably the most important position in a presidential cabinet.  He all but admitted as much during his disastrous Senate hearings last month:
