In response to:

Whoa: US Official Says America 'Ready to Strike' Iran

We should have attacked them much earlier for killing our soldiers and making war against us. If they go underground, the only way to stop them is nuclear annihilation. In fact, the only way to stop them is to nuke them, unless the people take over and become a rational democracy, which is not likely. Nuke Iran.

shubi, what do you think of my idea first, which is an exponential increase in domestic drilling?

I figure, before we do anything else, let's take away this ridiculous leverage the Middle East has over us.

Notice, I'm not saying military action won't be necessary--we're up against radical Islamic killers, after all--but I'd like to hit them in the wallet before I hit them with a nuke.

What do you think?

We have frittered away the 5 years we had to do that. We must hit Iran hard now or risk being nuked ourselves.
Also, we would not need to be so aggressive in the war on terror if we take out Iran, essentially a terrorist State.
We will be the oil power as soon as we get the communists out of office, but I am not that optimistic about that happening with the ignorance of so many voters in this country and the weakness of the GOP in stopping voter fraud.

The reason oil prices are going down right now is the threat of using our resources looming.
Panda Wrote: May 18, 2012 6:45 AM
You make many good points, though I think Iran will target Israel long before us.

I still hope we unleash drilling soon. Got to. We've wasted years, but we can get them back if we just get going.
Panda Wrote: May 18, 2012 6:46 AM
Very true. So what will happen if it becomes more than a threat?
shubi_ Wrote: May 18, 2012 6:51 AM
Iran has already targeted us.

The Keystone pipeline will keep prices low in this country, but will not help the rest of the world. The nonsense that oil is a global market and other forces set the price is an old model now.
With trillions of barrels in reserves, we control prices to the extent that we cannot fall below the cost of production. Shale oil is more expensive to produce than pooled oil, but it limits the damage Saudi Arabia can do.
The Saudis are also supporting the terrorists and may need to be eliminated after Iran, if they don't desist.
Panda Wrote: May 18, 2012 6:55 AM
Yeah, but don't you think they'll hit Israel first?
shubi_ Wrote: May 18, 2012 7:05 AM
I think they will hit NY first and destroy the US economy, then Israel.

Iran's first use of a nuclear bomb may not be over Israel, but the US,an EMP attack. An EMP attack on the US would set us back to 19th century living conditions we are NOT prepared for,and many millions would die from starvation and disease in the first year. It could mean the end of the US. Iran has been testing SCUD launches from containerships, with HIGH altitude detonations characteristic of an EMP attack, and not usable for attacks with conventional warheads . This type of attack is not needed for Israel,Iran's IRBMs already can reach Israel. But with the US crippled or destroyed,Iran is free to do as they please, without any other Western nation able or willing to interfere with them.
Jay Wye Wrote: May 18, 2012 11:32 AM
Also note that Iran is building a missile base in Venezuela, putting the US in range of Iran's IRBMs.
Lastly,MAD deterrence only works with RATIONAL players, and Iran's mullahs are not rational.

read One Second After by William Forstchen.

Although the presidential elections have taken center stage of late, there's another round of nuclear talks with Iran taking place in the coming week, and tensions are running high. There's long been suspicion that Israel may preemptively strike Iran if it doesn't cease its nuclear program, but now it seems that the US is openly admitting it, too, is prepared to strike if diplomacy fails.

The U.S. has plans in place to attack Iran if necessary to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons, Washington's envoy to Israel said, days ahead of a crucial round of nuclear talks...
