Nice work Mr. Ransom, you accurately summed things up.
I'd recommend you recheck your data on line losses, that's why they have 10,000 volt transmission lines to provide 110 volts to a house. And I don't know where you get the tilde55% figure either. Furnaces, water heaters are well above 95% efficiency with 4% natural gas used for processing and transportation- it fuels it's own transportation and processing. Dennis Hayes of the once Solar Energy Research Institute in the 1970's called the use of resources as close to the source as possible effemeralization, forgive the spelling. In some cases natural gas for electricity is justified, others coal, others solar, others wind or hydropower. He recognized that there is no one size fits all solution to energy production and the whole idea is to try to do more with less. Too bad the government doesn't think like that. Thanks Marita, I always read your articles, very balanced and well written. You know the oil industry, they'll just work in other places until the regulatory climate in NY gets realistic. then we'll safely drill and frac like we have everywhere else with a low percentage of mistakes and unanticipated adverse natural conditions.
Still an utter waste of natural gas, with line losses alone total system efficiency drops to less than 40%
Sorry, I should have written 42 paragraphs on the subject. Fact is Clinton forced opening the doors of mental institutions so that no matter how ill a person was, if they said they wanted out, nothing could be done to stop them.
Clinton was also responsible for releasing mentally ill patients into society by forcing legislation to make it impossible to hold them against their will, caused a huge uptick in homelessness and put everyone at risk for this type of event. No one seems to remember that.
William, I do not disagree with your remarks, but we have to be careful not to mouth inaccuracies as we advance a factual discussion, accuracy is what Ms. Noon advocates. Natural gas development is not being curtailed by anti-fracing rhetoric. The market for gas has been soft due to oversupply which has consequently led to the idling of approximately 300 rigs over the past year. As a brief aside, information varies, but there are nearly 200 direct jobs per operating rig with up to 3 jobs per rig job in the trickle down. If the economy was healthy we would likely see closer to the 2100 working drill rigs in early 2008 as opposed to the 1760 or so land rigs working now. The delay you speak of will be in the ability of power companies to re-fit plants for natural gas, not the availability of gas. Do not forget, I was in Wyoming working in the oilfield at the time, that both Obama and Hillary stated when campaigning in Wyoming the objective of shutting down drilling activity that was going on in that state- primarily on public land, and Obama made his famous statement, "Sure, you can build a coal plant, but it will bankrupt you." The Powder River Basin in Wyoming is a major clean coal producer so everyone sat up and listened. Immediately after the election the US rig count dropped almost 50% to avoid anticipated retroactive penalties similar to what Clinton enacted after his first election. The mess that the Obama administration is creating can be cleaned up, but history shows that few politicians have the courage to roll back regulatory insanity. Once power companies commence the investment of re-fitting, it is economic insanity to scrap a project and go back to what they had. Starting electric companies on the natural gas re-fit process guarantees soft demand for coal for a long time. My personal soapbox is that burning natural gas for electricity is a terrible misappropriation of an incredibly versatile resource. Coal is perfectly suited for electrical generation from a logistics and efficiency standpoint, natural gas is easily transported, can be burned cleanly in 95%+ efficient appliances, is well suited for transportation purposes and perhaps most importantly provides a rich chemical feedstock to support industry and a healthier life for everyone.
Haven't seen this reported anywhere- Clinton forced the legislation that essentially put mentally deranged people on our streets in the 90's. Basically people can't be held against their will, regardless of their mental capacity to make that decision. The same legislation forbid the use of restraints to keep the elderly from falling out of nursing home beds, and of course gave us HIPPA which makes it impossible for anyone with mental problems to be identified in background checks and screenings. Democrat chickens................ coming home to roost.
Don't see this in any articles on the topic. Morse jammed this legislation through, defying public input, denying public input and generally strong arming the entire process, disregarding senate rules. That is what fired up most support for the recall. Giron was also outside the limits of propriety and openly condemned her own constituents while trying to play both sides of the issue. I was in Colorado Springs briefly prior to this recall and the Democrat ads opposing the recall were mute regarding the gun issue and focused instead on claiming that if the Republican candidates replaced these two then women would be denied abortions and forced to bear children. They howled that atrocities without number would dominate the future.
