I think that's what is going to happen anyway, pandering to him won't change that. He is a lost cause, we can count on him only to what is right for himself not his country, not he constitution. Sadly the court now belongs to the left on any major decisions going forward until at least 2 of the progressives, or two of the wishy's (Roberts & Kennedy) step down or die at a time when a Conservative is in office. That's one heck of a roll of the dice to depend on.

We just need to bypass the selection process entirely, it's not illegal, and quite honestly we never seem to stop any of their nut job appointments anyway.

I find it offensive that he stated his job was not to protect us from the Government. If that's true than what is his job? To rubber stamp anything the legislation put's in front of him? Amazing.
The sentiment is ok, except for one thing. The SCOTUS is supposed to protect us from overreaching government. The constitution says what they can do, everything else is supposed to be off limits. Roberts though says that's not his problem. Apparently if Obama declared himself president for life then that's our problem because he and the congress were duly elected. I find it hard to understand what the court IS for it it's not to protect the basic rights of the citizen from the government. He has also expanded the power to tax to anything, and everything, basically allowing tyrannical power to grow unchecked so long as it is a tax.
Independence from Freedom Day
No one is shivering in fear, more like quaking with outrage. The fact that we still have the power to elect ( for now ) does not mean that we should not speak out and castigate Roberts and any other opportunist or progressive for shi'tting on the constitution. The whole purpose of the three branches was to provide balance, the courts job is to make sure the other two branches do not step outside the constitution, which Roberts has now denied and basically turned us into a Banana republic if Obama so chooses. That's worthy of a little anger don't you think?
"...Our Constitution is the best written guarantor of human liberty in human history" It's supposed to be, but according to 5 of the sitting justices, and Roberts in particular, it does not offer us any protection against tyrants so long as they are duly elected. So if Obama declares that every person with blue eyes needs to pay 110% of their income or be jailed for life Roberts thinks that's our problem, not his. So don't come crying to the supreme court if you have an out of control government that has disregarded it's constitutional limits, they are too busy prancing around in their black robes and heading out to cocktail parties with the intellectually elite! Roberts and Company all have reservations in hell.
Personally I think the left deserve the same kind of treatment. They show no respect, they should get no respect. I realize the media would filter much of it out, but the difference would be we don't need to make anything up and the American people for all of our faults are pretty good at detecting BS when given the opportunity.

I was thinking along the same lines, Roberts has pretty much declared that his job is to rubber stamp any dictators whims so long as the dictator sits in a certain room in the white house.
