Fighting Crime with a Vodka Bottle in Place of a Gun

No, eric, what is sick is letting killers like Tuscon's Jared Lee Loughner and Aurora, Colorado's James Holmes thrive in state mental hospital systems, paying millions for their upkeep as we have for attempted assassin John Hinckley, who has cost taxpayers about 2 million dollars to provide him 32 years of shelter, food, and entertainment. What is sick is feeding our children the daily poison of gut wrenching violence on the idiot tube, in movies, in video games; teaching our children that they are the descendants of pond scum, that their lives have no value; and then blaming guns for the monsters that we have deliberately created. I'll take Gary's solution.

It happens probably nightly. A citizen fights off a criminal in order to protect his property. But it doesn't always make the nightly news. In this case it did.

But...

How much easier and safer would have been this takedown of a punk in New York City if the clerk had been equipped with a hand gun rather than just a vodka bottle?  How much less of a burden to the taxpayer too, who will now have to incarcerate the criminal?

And just think of chilling effect it would have on criminals if shootings of miscreants during crimes like this were on the nightly...
