Back in their time only landowners could vote...as it should be today. People with no skin in the game should not be allowed to vote themselves largesse from the public treasury, the framers like Jefferson , Franklin and Madison and others like Tyler and De Tocqueville warned of that at the founding.

Democracy and Majority Rule

President Barack Obama narrowly defeated Gov. Mitt Romney in the popular vote 51 percent to 48 percent. In the all-important Electoral College, the difference was larger, with Obama winning 303 electoral votes and Romney 206.
