An interesting read. Though with the Australia example the tax was being REMOVED as of a certain date where as the new death tax is being IMPLEMENTED as of a certain date. The Australia example proves that people were willing to fudge death dates of people who had already died on forms and the like to ensure they got in under the new regime. If they'd survived longer it wouldn't have been an issue. That's why i'm not so sure you can extrapolate from that study that in the current situation people will be deliberately dying earlier. It's one thing to lie on a form, it's another thing to deliberately die early or pull the plug...

Chuckle. Reminds me of a story from the middle of the last century. Some Democrat CA congressman, that was in the Mafia's pocket, died just before his reelection. Problem for the Mafia was, dying before the election gave the choice to the Party - that the Mafia didn't have locked up. Dying after gave the choice to the Governor - who they did own.

They apparently kept him on ice in his bathtub for a couple of weeks - until just after he was reelected.

So, when grandpa died too soon, they popped him in the freezer to keep the body from getting ripe before it was time to announce his demise? I wonder if there might have been an uptick in sales of chest freezers in the months prior to the tax law changes. That would make for an interesting chart.

It's not fudging the date to keep the body going with life support or to decide to go ahead and withdraw life support to have the actual date of death be more advantageous.

In some ways, it would be fun to be a leftist.

No, I’m not talking about living a life of idleness and letting others pay my bills, though I suppose that’s tempting to some people.

And I’m not talking about becoming a Washington insider and using corrupt connections to obtain unearned wealth, though I confess I’m actually friends with some of those people.

Instead, I’m talking about what it must be like to engage in reckless demagoguery and personal smears.

Remember during the presidential campaign when Mitt Romney was – for all...
