"Taxing the rich" may not make economic sense all other things being equal. But, all other things are not equal. Every one knows the rich often pay a lower percentage of their income through various tax loopholes and devices as witnessed by Romney's $77,000 tax write off for a horse and his 14 percent actual rate. What too many of the electorate "heard" subsequent to and during the election is the GOP railing about entitlements that the majority of Americans have paid into and will need while supporting the current tax system that favors the rich.
One might have thought the campaign season was over, but in fact a new campaign is beginning. This was made clear with the president's trip to what was billed as a "middle class family home" to talk fiscal cliff and tax policy.
The president is now campaigning for his transformative agenda and he sees the middle class as useful pawns. The real question is: When will the middle class see that they are being had?

Romney's income is based on capital gains, which are taxed at least twice (and arguably three times), so the rates are lower than basic income. Anyone who doesn't avail themselves of legal deductions is just an idiot. Even Obama, Warren Buffet, and all the Hollywood types crying for higher taxes on the rich do the same thing.
