I have thought for a long time that we needed to cut the staffs and the perks that these senators and house members have.
If they actually had to do the job they were hired for instead of letting unelected staffs produce all the legislation then maybe they would have some idea of what they were voting for. It would also cut expenses and prevent backroom deals. Who would have time for backroom deals?
They should get their salary, enough for 1-2 aides to work with constituents, their office in the house or senate building and THAT is all. They should have to voucher all other legitimate business expenses after first paying for them. Why should they have carte blanche?
