Just as "Damien3" stated, illegals pay someone for a social security number that belongs to someone else. I was once illegal and now a naturalized citizen. My parents and I became residents then citizens within the last 5 years. I am 21. My father was working at a steel company in the bay area in CA and he worked there for 8 years with a someone else's SSN. When he was laid off, he couldn't get unemployment benefits because they would figure out his number was fake. He contributed all his 8 years of working at that company into the government and paid taxes every year. At that time it was that if you paid taxes for 10 years, had a child born here, and never left the states throughout the entire time, you could get lucky and get residency.
