Up here in WY 30 caliber is the family of choice for deer, if you want to go for elk the higher the better, 30'06 is the standard. Since many elk hunters also go for deer the 30'06 is one of the most used calibers.
For 'lopes a .223 works, for prairie dogs & other varmints the .223 also works.

I use a 30 30 for everything from elk to deer to bear and rarely shoot more than 60 yards here in NM

.358 Win, Browning BLR81 knocks em all flat, limited recoil, .308 case necked up, deer flip and stiff legged in the air from the impact, buddy has one and took a near 500 lb blackie and knocked him rolling didnt get up, and elk dont go very far w a 250 gr silver tip behind their shoulder. Accurate out to 300 yards.

Ought to see what happens to a coyote that makes a mistake and shows themself when I am carrying that rifle, plain near guts em!

I’ve shared some very powerful videos that help explain why we should respect and celebrate the individual right to keep and bear arms.
