The People vs. Unions: Cash, Credit and Corruption

I appreciate this article because it provides concrete examples of union created issues. I think that too often we just throw out a "Unions are bad message" with no second or third order reasoning. Unions do serve valid functions like workplace safety, training, and allowing members to take advantage of group insurance pools that the market may ignore. The problem with Unions is not their existence but their overreach.

The unions have long since outlived their usefulness.

It is as if there was still an anti-slavery or women's suffrage group still in existence.

They need to justify their existence, so they gin up non-existent problems.

Their termination, through attrition, is long overdue. They have become the very thing they were fighting against -- serial abusers of power.

You don't need unions to have group insurance pools or safety/training. If a business does not have internal training they cease to exist. Oh, and OSHA does exist. Ever look at their regs.?

Just because other mechanisms exist does not mean that those mechanisms are sufficient, efficient, or better than other options.

Further, I find it odd that people would rather have the government tell them how to run their workplace (OHSA) than have labor and management get together and decide what they would like to do.

I am curious as to what the heads of these Unions make. I was in the Grocery Business and have never heard what they make? I know what CEO's make!
Too many Government Org's controlling things and getting paid for it when one would do the same thing or none. leave it up to the owners. when no one wants to work there because of conditions. they will change.

International Brotherhood of Teamsters President Jimmy Hoffa Jr. was paid a base salary of $294,285 in 2010, according to the labor union’s financial disclosure forms.

While it’s a truism that for every finger you point at someone else you’ve got three pointed right back at you, for liberals it’s part of their laws of physics.

It would be impossible for the laws of liberals to govern without this binding hypocrisy that keeps them in orbit.

That’s why it shouldn’t surprise you that for all the leftist rhetoric about corporations and greed contributing the decline of the country, there’s one corporate outfit that’s really screwing up this country- and it’s a creation and a creature of the left.

Like most Big Left organizations it is...
