The Health Care Fatal Conceit

"He has erected a multitude of New Offices, and sent hither swarms of Officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance."

This really is what has happened in the US since the 1930s. In some periods the harassment is worse than others, but it will happen again. It may be difficult or impossible to stop.
What Phylo does not mention - nor does anyone mention when they bring up the emergency room garbage - is that we are forced to cover emergency room payments for people who cannot or will not pay (thus stressing our emergency care to the breaking point in many locations). Nor are hospitals allowed to even ask about immigration status. So to people like Phylo - the obvious solution is a government run leviathan? This is how more government interference begets more government interference.
This will not help him. If in a vote for the next election - the left will not support the other guy. He will lose independents with this sort of stupidity - looking down his nose at them the whole time.

The Moon We Forgot

We will go back to the moon over and over for only one reason: money. It is the reason for all successful exploration. It is why we left our caves for greener pastures. It is why we got on boats to challenge horizons. It is why we took to the skies. Space is thoroughly commercialized (and likely militarized). If the moon held commercial promise, it would have happened already.

A Joke Too Far

This is mostly a leftie invention. This is the first conservative site I where I have seen the Psalm quoted. Mostly you will find it on left wing sites about what right wingers are saying.

Dead on, as always.

Reminds me too of something I believe Mr. Will said about Cap and Trade: that proponents say it will create a market. Mr. Will retorts that it will create scarcity, not a market.

Afterthoughts from the U.N. Address

History started with the Oblahblah presidency. We can, like Spike Lee suggests, mark time as Before Obama and After Obama.
"1.6 trillion equals $53333.32 per man woman and child. "

When you consider that there are not even close to 300 million workers who also pay taxes, you begin to see how impossible this is to pay up.

Presumption and Assumption

1. Class size has been reducing year by year since the 1970s with flat results at best.

2. Poverty - Thomas Sowell documents that poor black kids were doing better before federal intrusion into the schools - and they were even more poor.

3. Teacher pay - how many hours do engineers work? (and the V is a double V - WA) How many summers do engineers get off. How many union goons protect engineers, how many engineers get tenure (or any other profession for that matter)? How many engineers whine about it? The point is not that they are overpaid, but they took jobs based on that pay, which is fairly generous when you look at all the bennies. Homeschooling parents make nothing - and still pay with taxes those same...
