What Happens to Democrats If Obama Loses

Romney scares very much less than Obama scares me.

Why Not Junk the Nobel Peace Prizes?

Ron P Wrote: Apr 06, 2012 7:01 AM
I'm glad you noted the Peace Prize is awarded by an entity in Norway, not in Sweden. Here is official language from the Nobel Organization: "The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences awards the Nobel Prizes in Physics, Chemistry, and the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. The Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet awards the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The Swedish Academy grants the Nobel Prize in Literature. The Nobel Peace Prize is not awarded by a Swedish organisation but by the Norwegian Nobel Committee." Sweden granted Norway independence a few years after Alfred Nobel activated his legacy.

Who Is Happy?

The Ancient Greeks had a definition I like: the use of all one's powers in pursuit of excellence. It's a process, not a place. Be active, not passive.
I also wept at the end, seeing the list of all who died after 9/11 defending our country and our liberties, made vulnerable by an inattentive Congress and a President who seems strangely diffident regarding these.

Rachel Maddow and My Lesson in Civility

Dear Mr. Thomas, I am glad you have written this and have apologized to Ms Maddow, whom I know very little about. I saw and heard you make the referenced comments and felt them not worthy of you. You have properly rectified your error. Best wishes,

Scientific Mysteries

Yes, "measurement is not the only source of meaning". Aptly put. But there are people who, as a matter of faith, will insist that everything will be discovered and defined through the use of mathematics and/or physics. I was once such a person until my physics professor (in 1960) said that a region beyond what we were discussing was "undefined". I had theretofore rather carelessly called myself "atheist", but after this bombshell started calling myself a "conscientious agnostic". Now I don't label myself, and am merely open to enjoying the occasional "glimpse" of "The Great Everything" that is beyond our full comprehension.

Romney Out in Front

First: Anybody but Obama Second: Newt's a good thinker and talker, but this isn't leading. I admit these qualities are not mutually exclusive, so the clinker for me in Newt is his "character", especially as compared with Romney's. Romney is, to me, bland and somewhat opaque, but he doesn't frighten me. Newt does. Third: Let's elect good congresspeople who will, if they do their duty, keep an errant President in check. It isn't ALL about who is president.

Norway's Definition of Insanity Is, Well...

Please note that Sweden's King in 1905 said OK to Norway wanting to be separated politically from Sweden's rule. No revolution, just OK. Sweden's King Oscar II must have known something. Please note, also, that it is the Norwegians who award the Nobel Peace Prize, not the Swedes.

I think, of the two, Romney would do the least harm. And, anybody but BHO.
