An uncle of mine worked at the Bethlehem Steel plant in Yeagertown, PA for most of his life but realized that it was a failing situation because the management wanted to modernize; the union did not for fear of losing their jobs, typical union ignorance. My uncle bought a farm in the country as backup. As he said later, "I was on strike 6 months out of every year on the average and never gained any financial advantage." The mill closed down and China became the steel source because they were building modern mills.
