I taught both of our kids to read before they ever went to school and was going to continue to teach them myself until I was deluged with threatened lawsuits of child cruelty, yup, from family member. One day my daughter came home from public school with a pink slip saying that she needed to be put in a remedial class for slow learners. I was shocked. After spending a bit of time with her, I noticed that her hands were shaking. After careful inquiry, I learned that a child who sat behind her was mentally "challenged" and would suddenly scream out loud. My daughter was a nervous wreck, but the educational system required that my daughter be required to tolerate this for "inclusion" purposes. I got her out of there the next day.
