This year our youngest grandson started playing the trumpet in one of the best middle school band programs in southern California. Last week we attended their end of the year concert and we were treated to a medley of the Marine, Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard hymns. During each hymn the conductor ask current and former members of each branch to stand and be recognized for their service during their branch hymn. The energy and the applause built and the medley culminated with an inspired rendition of the National Anthem. I didn’t notice anyone struggling to play or sing the Anthem though I did notice several of us chocking up and even a few tears flowing.

Liberal talk radio host Bill Press has a bone to pick...with the Star Spangled Banner. Press said recently on his radio show that his main goal is to get rid of it. At first, Press tries to play off his issue with the National Anthem as being because the song is difficult to sing, but quickly expresses his true feelings about the song:

"It's an abomination."

"Are we the only ones who are brave on the planet? I mean all the brave people live here. I mean it’s just stupid I think."

"I’m embarrassed, I’m embarrassed...
