Excellent article as usual. Basing views of today on the past always focuses the current events. I suspect that the same human issues as we are concerned with today (various beliefs, access to land for farms and raw materials, political power) were fought over by cavemen. Nothing much new under the sun in these base human issues.

Last month I attended a NRA meeting and it too started with the Pledge of Allegiance. How refreshing is that? I recall when I was in grade school every day was started the same way. This was just after WWII and we then knew more about what the world was really like than do young people today..
