You forgot about GHW Bush who lost to Bill Clinton. And Gerald Ford who lost to Carter. Although Ford wasn't elected to the presidency he WAS the incumbent. And Hoover who lost to Roosevelt

Romney lost because he was a lousy candidate. A decent, trustworthy Republican would have creamed Obama.

I realize that all the votes haven't been counted yet but, so far, there were almost 11M fewer voters in 2012 than there were in 2008. It seems to me that those 6.7M people you talk about probably didn't reject leftist policies but instead rejected BOTH parties and chose not to vote at all.

Not so hard to understand. People, even Republicans, just don't like or trust Romney. It's a shame that the Republicans couldn't find a decent candidate.

@Little...I don't buy that. There are people who have clinically insane beliefs. It's not un-American to refuse to accept a candidate with insane beliefs. Would you want someone who worshiped Satan running this country? Would it be un-American to be biased against Satanists? Not saying that Mormons are Satanists but come on! An angel named Moroni? Golden tablets etched in "reformed Egyptian"? Sliver spectacles with "seer stones" for lenses? A self-proclaimed prophet whose prophecies are better than 80% false with the other 20% being questionable? Magic underwear?
