They were thinking they'd like to hold on to their seats for a little while longer. Check out what districts these people are from. You can't sell a draconian anti-abortion stance there. Though, by all means, I'd like to see them try!

By the way, David Dreier is the chair of the committee on rules - he's high up in the Republican caucus. He's also gay, and it turns out he's not running for re-election (probably got redistricted out of his district). Guess he decided to vote his conscience on this one!

The House voted this week on a bill that would ban abortion after 20 weeks in the District of Columbia. The District of Columbia Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act (H.R. 3803) required a two-thirds vote, but fell short after 148 Democrats and 6 Republicans voted in opposition. H.R. 3803 would have been a significant pro-life victory in a city that is wildly pro-abortion. Via Life News:
