The scary thing about is a lot of people will simply comply. Sure, there'll be outrage and there'll be ranting but in the end, it'll just be marked down as, "that's just the way it is".

The Canadians tried a national gun registry for all guns, including rifles and shotguns. The government said compliance rates were at slightly more than 65%. Some Canadians, in protest, registered things like nail guns and grease guns. What was the real compliance rate. Some people think it was less than 50%, others feel it was somewhere slightly above 50%. They eventually shut it down due to costs and cost overruns to maintain it, coupled with no discernible reductions in violent crime rates, including crimes where guns were used.
