Very well written Dr. Williams! The idea of forcing people to give their money (time & labor) to others is pretty ugly. I agree with the concept of "wishes" you brought up. What decent person wouldn't want everyone to have food, shelter and medical care. However, as soon as someone has to provide these things, personal motivation to earn them ourselves disappears and makes the whole system unsustainable.
