I recall Jesus's sermon of the Uzis!

Jesus told us to love even our enemies, but hate-filled liberal bigots like this rgama nitwit make that difficult.

You know nothing of God...

Wow. If you have any guns, I hope someone takes them away from you. You're east bound in a westbound lane.

Jesus also told us to present the other cheeck, not to blow their heads off!

I believe that Jesus told his desciples to take up their swords to smite their enemies, and if they didn't have a sword, they were to sell some of their belongings in order to purchase a sword. Am I mistaken about that DSMike? I'm not a strict Christian who knows the bible inside and out. I try to live my life according to the golden rule and with the ways I was taught during my Christian upbringing. As to being a devout Christian, who follows the bible to a "T", I'm afraid I fail in some areas.

When Jesus was preparing His disciples to go out into the world and teach He told them that he who has no sword should sell some of his clothes and buy one. I don't remember Him making a reference to smiting ones enemy, but that is implied by His telling them to bear arms. I don't remember which book offhand, but you could find it easy on Biblegateway.com. The Old Testament has references to using the sword.

Well, the government could kill you and then it's a moot point. Some progressives probably wouldn't mind all that much if government killed a bunch of people whom they regard as a bunch of right wing nuts who tend to cling to their bibles and guns. In fact, some progressives might hold neighborhood parties to celebrate, if that were to happen.

GOD did not give you the right to bear arms...the Constitution did.

DS: Many of us believe that certain rights are natural, or God-given, and among those is the right to have the means to defend ourselves, as individuals and as groups. The Constitution codified those rights, but is not what gave them to us.
Luscious Lars Wrote: Jan 11, 2013 10:15 AM
No. The Constitution protects the right, which existed prior to the Constitution being penned. Even the US Supreme Court disagrees with you. In one of their findings, they stated that the right to keep and bear arms is not a right "granted" by the 2nd Amendment to the constitution, nor is it in any way dependent upon it for its existence. In other words, the right to keep and bear arms exists as a part of human rights. The right was not created or granted by the 2nd Amendment. The right exists, whether there is a second amendment or not. That's what the Supreme Court of the United States claims. I guess you can argue with that, but you're also in opposition to the writings of the Founders.

Show me in the Bible where it God says has the right to arms...I agree the right to protect yourself is stated...but the right to arm yourself?
Mike107 Wrote: Jan 11, 2013 10:23 AM
You need to read what it states. Our constitution only recognizes rights that are self evident and bestowed on us by our creator. The constitution does not create or grant any rights at all. In fact what it does do is restrict the government from violating our God given rights.

I am well versed in both....one is given by God and is therefore perfect, the other is written by men and can therefore be faulty.

Why do we need the bible to say that we have the right? Some of feel it's a natural right, some feel it's a God given right. Regardless, the point is that a human has a life, a soul, and a reasoning brain. We have an inherent right to survive, as any living thing does. We have a thinking brain which allows us to design and use tools to make things easier. Criminals will use tools to kill. They have lost their soul. Those of still in possession of our soles, have right to keep and bear the most effective tools to defend our lives and the lives of our loved ones, and our souls will prevent us from using those same tools for criminal purposes. This is the state of true freedom. I don't need a law against murder to prevent me from murder.
Luscious Lars Wrote: Jan 11, 2013 10:34 AM
...But we need a law against murder to state not only that it's morally wrong and our society explicitly denounces it, as well as defining how we'll punish you, should you violate the social order by committing a murder. Owning, possessing, or using a semiautomatic firearm for purposes which don't violate the rights of others, carries no immorality about it, and thus, should carry no penalties. Using any weapon for "immoral" purposes (typically the same as criminal purposes in civilized societies) should be severely punished.

The NRA met with Vice President Biden and the gun violence task force today as part of a series of meetings with key stakeholders in the gun debate. The NRA’s statement about the meeting confirms that that White House was never interested in having an honest, inclusive debate about how to prevent tragedies like Newtown from happening again, but rather, is focused on its “agenda to attack the Second Amendment.”
