Dr Sowell. I think you miss the point. Obama was/is correct. Our capitalist system is NOT FAIR! Most people know it? The huge, growing wealth gap provides quantitative measure of the unfairness. There is no way Warren Buffet is billions of times more intelligent than we are. In a fair system, you would expect wealth to be more normally distributed, like IQs, height, weights, .... Obama's "solution" is to simply redistribute wealth. The Republicans need to acknowledge the problem and offer an alternative that is based on market forces. ThInk out of the boxes. The time is ripe for a new, superCapitalist system where the opportunities for wealth creation through hard work and creativity are more available. There are ways.

"Fairness" died on the third grfade playground and is used by way too many people who really mean "You've got more stuff than I do and I want it!"

In the United States of America most people that are rich weren't born that way but found a way to get there.

You should try it.

Wow! I'm saddened by the responses to my post. First, for those of you who don't understand statistical terms, "normal" means "bell curve". That might help some.

I expected the responses would include lots of creative ideas for improving our capitalist system.

Based on my experience, I believe there are creative people everywhere, even among those flipping burgers. I know Mensas working on the factory floor with ideas to triple productivity, but with no way to be fairly rewarded. Yes, there are better ways. It's not that hard to imagine how.

These "Mensas" must not be sharing those ideas with the managers who can make it happen and reward them! If you make yourself valuable to your company; sooner or later, it will be recognized and you will be rewarded. Any reasonably well-run company likes such ideas as they then prosper more! It sounds like these "mensas" have a chip on their shoulder or are just lazy ... it takes more than smarts!

Of all the econominc systems, at its purest, capitalism is the most fair. However, the US version no longer is fair due to the book-cooking and power-brokering in DC. The corrupt US Govt has bastardized the capitalist system for their own selfish gain and power, thus making the whole system unfair for all except for them, and their friends who learn how to play the game.

And we are trying to solve the problem by giving these politician parasites MORE power???? We're doomed.

Wow. There is so much wrong with your viewpoint that it's hard to know where to begin.

Capitalism is the fairest system. We have known this since Adam Smith. But of couse, it depends on what you mean by fair. If you want equal outcomes regardless of how much you put in, I guess it isn't -- but that isn't a sane definition of "fair".

Warren buffet is not any more intelligent than anyone else. Probably less. I am a certified "genius" based on IQ, but I am at best upper middle class. What it takes to become rich is arrogance, fearlessness, unshakable self confidence, and a conscience-free ability to manipulate people -- salesmanship, if you will.

We don't need creativity. We know what works. We just have to find our own salesmen.

Buffett's investment strategies are there for anyone to use ... if you just study endlessly the financial situation of companies to invest in! THAT'S the difference ... not IQ, although, it takes a certain amount; but hard work!

You have got to be kidding! Right? There cannot be fools such as these.....capibile of comprehension of basic computer skills. Able to frame complete sentences and stupid enough to belive the cr$p that being pumped by the communists currently in charge of our country.

Isn't it stupid for Townhall to censor "c r a p" but they let you put in hell or damn without a quibble?
True Conservative! Wrote: Nov 28, 2012 10:28 AM
But as you both showed, there are easy ways around the Townhall censor with the meaning still quite clear!

LOL, wow you are a dumb a$$. I agree with the second part, but You don't even know what the heck your talking about. If you have read any of Thomas Sowell's body of work you would know the "wealth gap" is not as great as the libs would have you think; STOP buying the cr@p they are selling! You don't seem to understand the basics of what a FAIR society would look like. First: height, weight, and IQ are not "normally" (i assume you meant evenly... since normal would be an average of all countries which would make no sense and by your own definition be more UNFAIR) distributed. Free market capitalism is FAIR; as long as by fair you mean that people can succeed or fail based of their efforts. It only makes sence that there would be....

michael jordan's and Einsteins in any field of interest. Looking at results and, in seeing a disparity, assuming that the disparity is indicitive of prejudice is a corrolation, not by any objective, intelligent, or scientific evaluation does that serve as evidence that there is a cause and effect relationship. It may be indicative that our school systems have utterly failed you in explaining the scientific method, reason, logic, and how to come to a conclusion, but then, there is more HARD evidence of that then there is that our system is prejudiced. BTW, Thomas Sowell disproves your naive assumptions in several of his books... This is why we lost the election, people in this country cant even make a f&#@%&* point to save thier lives.

The alternative based on market forces is for people to decide for themselves how to distribute their wealth. Charity need to be privatized. Then people will only give to the charities where their money will do the most good. The Liberal premise that government is the appropriate conduit for charity is simply wrong. Instead of lifting people up the Democrats want to get the populace addicted to government handouts in order to consolidate Democrat/government power. Is grabbing my money for paybacks to Obama donors who invested in Solyndra fair?

This is communism. Tragically you don't know that because you are very poorly educated.

"There are ways. " You're right! Hard work, dedication, long hours, etc.
If everyone in America had read Stephen Moore's new book, "Who's The Fairest of Them All?", Barack Obama would have lost the election in a landslide.

The point here is not to say, "Where was Stephen Moore when we needed him?" A more apt question might be, "Where was the whole economics profession when we needed them?" Where were the media? For that matter, where were the Republicans?

Since "Who's The Fairest of Them All?" was published in October, there was little chance that it would affect this year's election. But this little gem of a book exposes,...
