They could rely on proofreaders if they hired any. As an editor and proofreader, I'm fully aware that my job was cut in the first round of layoffs at the company I used to work for. As long as the articles get published, textual accuracy is secondary and expendable.

There's a super storm raging over our economy that's been seeded and fueled by the federal government over a period of the past several decades. And it's literally costing the country trillions of dollars in GDP per year.
