sorry Linda you got it all wrong ! the 14th amendment was never intended to give citizenship to emigrants but to make sure ex-slaves received it was stretched to fit a case in the early 1900s that involves the child of some Chinese folks that had their baby and the their visas expired the supreme court ruled that they could stay in a 5 to 4 decision that holds controversy to today. people are calling for a reevaluation of the 14th amendment's application to people who commit a crime and then try to gain residency based on that crime.
