C'mon. Charter schools can cherry pick their students. If they do not perform, they can return to the regular public school. The ones who attend simply escape the low level teaching because of the influx of low level students who enter from countries that do NOT have a history of educational traditions. These are students with mediocre intelligences and low motivations. Sorry folks, but as a teacher of 25 years, I have seen this decline of education occur as we have experienced the pollution of our student population. This is not racism; it is reality.
It is quite easy to point the finger at teachers since they are the ones closest to the students. However, there are problems that need to be addressed (in no particular order): 1) administrators (principals and above) often have far smaller amounts of teaching experience than many of the teachers below them; 2) principals establish cliques within the teacher ranks which will ensure those teachers will often receive the higher academic and better behaved students; 3) administrators above principals pressure those principals to come up with plans of how they will “improve” their schools, forcing the principals to come up with all sorts of nonsense that actually makes teaching more difficult; 4) parents either support strong academics at...

These revelations of a nation at war are simply too much. My dad once sat and spoke to me about WWII. When patrols encountered and overtook German soldiers, there were major decisions. The platoons were unable to bring the prisoners with them or to transport them to prisoner camps or whatever. They were executed on the spot so that the platoon or company could move on. This was the norm. But, of course, imagine having an accompanying news correspondent by today's standards?? The outcry would have been astounding. But, for WWII, this was the norm and necessary. The revelation of these documents is untenable. The persons behind these actions are traitors. War is hell, but it must be conducted as such.
The gov't will never get out of the education business because the students are the future voters and they need to be propagandized, so they may be easily manipulated into the "soccer-mom" mentality. Math teaches a sequential logic which is applicable to examining any subject. Therefore, we must instead honor single parent households, multiculturalism, good-try answers, etc and ignore excellence, patriotism etc. It is a sad situation for which there are no answers that will actually be implemented. My wife and I are teachers and agree that whole system is horrific. Home school your kids or families combine and take turns teaching whatever is your content strength. One complete evening watching television shows on what academic level our...
