How about going back to before LBJ and distribute commodities of basic food necessities in bulk quantities and make sure they are healthy things. My Grandmother did that when I was young because she lost her husband and my grandfather in 1943 and at that time all her income was the family, a garden, milk cows and the bulk commodities that carried her through each month and if she did not need them she did not go get them an honorable woman that was taken care first by family and second by her own hard work. That would solve the EBT mess and still provide the necessary food. Second till we get a handle on this any purchase of anything other food is a 100 time fine for the establishment that let's that happen.
From New York to New Mexico and across the dependent plains, welfare recipients are getting sauced on the public dime. Drunk, besotted, bombed. But while politicians pay lip service to cutting government waste, fraud and abuse, they're doing very little in practice to stop the EBT party excesses. Where's the compassion for taxpayers?

You see the signs everywhere: "We accept EBT." Fast-food restaurants do. Clothing retailers do. Auto repair shops, liquor stores and even sushi joints are joining the club. "EBT" stands for the federal government's electronic benefits transfer card, which is intended to provide poor people with food stamps and cash...
