Slavery existed as an economic practice long before white people arrived on this continent. White people were taken as slaves too. We moved away from slavery as a nation in a very short time period compared to the nations that preceded us. The right of the developing human being to fully develop in the womb is not advanced by abortion. The rights of people to fully develop as individuals are not advanced by slavery.

That's not news. So were a lot of people. The fact is it ended. Also it remains that they referred to slaves as 'Persons' and not as a sub-species even if they weren't regarded as 'free Persons'. It's not like we don't make allowances nowadays for distinction among 'Persons'. A lot of special interest groups would be sucking wind if those distinctions went away.
