This column reads like fantasy. Pre-1974, the City ran like clock-work with no budget deficits, little or no politial corruption ala former Mayor Bill Campbell, and was actually responsive to its citizens. I went to City of Atlanta schools which were actually quite good. But, this all changed in the early 70's when the color of City Hall changed. Since then, affirmative action has been crammed down our throats - I have never understood why the City requires minority-owned companies (i.e. "African American") to get City contracts, yet the minority population is white - thank you, Maynard Jackson.
