Nearly Bankrupt LA Pays People to Turn in Their Guns

"$200 grocery store gift cards to people who turned in an automatic weapon", automatic weapons are not for sale to the general public. Ya Ya Ya, you can buy kits to make them auto, or buy them from the BATF under their Fast and Furious gun running program. But leave it to libtards to spend money they don't have on something Not related to the problem. Fewer people die in these types of shootings than get shot on a hot July Saturday night in Chicago. Fact is, it's not gun ownership, it's wack jobs who get their hands on guns that's the problem. Punishing honest people for the sins of a few in an effort to stop the few is ludicrous, it's off point, and accomplishes nothing. Talk about aiming at the wrong target.

Wouldn't turning over(selling, for the price of those cards) a full-auto firearm to police be a violation of the 1934 NFA?
that transfer was NOT done lawfully, since the police are not licensed by ATF to deal in NRA weapons.
No tax stamp was obtained prior to the transfer.
Was ANY Class-III FFL present to make the actual purchases?

Over the weekend, the Los Angeles Police Department held a gun buy back and paid people $100-$200 in gift cards as an incentive to participate. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa called the buy back a way to fight crime although criminals do not participate in buy back programs. From Reuters:

Police officers handed out $200 grocery store gift cards to people who turned in an automatic weapon, and $100 gift cards to those who provided a handgun, rifle or shotgun.

Los Angeles has held an annual gun buyback since 2009, and similar events have been organized...
