"Progressive" is one of those words that is used as and adjective when useful and then claimed as a label when that is useful. Everybody loves progress, don't we? We may not agree on just what qualifies as progress, but whatever we think it is, we're for it. And, as the adjective, that which can be called progress can be described as progressive (small p). Then along comes a party that labels itself Progressives and tries to equate its ideology to that unassailable and unquestioned goodness of progress (small p again), as if it has a monopoly on all that is noble, kind and better than the status quo. What's in a name, quoth Juliet. Statist oppression by any other name would stink as badly (quoth I).

the Communists of the USSR called themselves "progressives",the communists of Red China call themselves "progressives",communists of Central and South America call themselves "progressives".Communists worldwide call themselves "progressives".
So,"progressive" DOES equal socialist/communist.
socialism is the first, necessary step to communism.
But people make too much about minor differences in definitions, when essentially and practically speaking, socialism IS communism.

No. It's not. Communism is what's left after the socialist government "withers away." Leaving happy, share-and-share alike peasants. No one, much less the Soviet Union has lived under communism. The government of the SU promised for years that the next generation would. But things got in the way. WW II (fighting another socialist regime), that pesky capitalist USA, that wouldn't collapse. It was always something. Dictatorships for the last 100 years have been based on some form of socialism. Deadly.

Dear Mac,

Christian beliefs in the public square are increasingly under attack.

Here’s an example:

The Connecticut Post chose to not put a "Merry Christmas" greeting in print on...
