That way when we all go off the cliff together, he can blame you and the Republicans for not agreeing to his plan. Of course, his plan will have the same result or worse. But the MSM will never report that.

The Bush tax cuts are scheduled to expire *automatically* this January. Hence to raise taxes on the wealthy, Obama doesn't have to do anything or say anything; that is what is scheduled to happen anyway.

Unfortunately, taxes will rise on the middle class too. So what Obama wants to do in 2013 is then send to Congress a bill rescinding those middle-class tax increases. Then he comes out looking like a hero to the middle class.
