Maybe that's why the Mob has declined since its heyday during the Al Capone-Lucky Luciano era. Its hard to compete when the government gets in to the rackets.

Reportedly a commander in a nuclear missile unit offered the first firing platoon to launch a round in combat a three-day pass (I was an enlisted journalist not a missile crewman but I was assigned to a nuclear unit). My thought at the time was "where would someone spend a three-day pass after a nuclear exchange?"
