Fifty years ago I was about to celebrate my 11th birthday. Mickey Mantle, Roger Maris, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron and Roberto Clemente were still patrolling Major League Baseball outfields.

I am the same age. Even with the Cold War and the threat of nuclear war, it was a beautiful time. One that Obama would love to see destroyed forever.

My dad was born in 1930. He has fond memories growing up the son of a sharecropper in north Florida. To him the Depression and war years are the good old days.
