I would say it was the 30s, when the federal government finally broke free of all consttutional restraints on its power. The only restraint since has been fiscal, and now the government has broken free of even that. Get ready for hyperinflation.

A few days after the election of 2012 the very talented Michael Ramirez published a political cartoon that perhaps conveyed a more profound meaning than he anticipated.
