McCarthy may have been right, but I still dislike the showboating style he used--for tactical reasons. I don't think he did it for the heck of it, but rather to try and garner attention and make people think, but it just played into the hands of the petite-fascists. Strategically he has been shown to be right beyond all doubt, but his tactics lost the battle and several subsequent battles. It's no easy matter to fight the petite-fascist propaganda ministry at ABC/NBC/CBS/NY Times/CNN/Wash Post etc, and his tactical mistakes caused the opposite of his desired effect. It doesn't matter that he's been vindicated, and what Will & company did is use the Big Lie against the Big Liars. Crude but occasionally effective.

Actually as Ann points out, your impression of McCarthy showboating imeans you have just accepted the false image created by the left starting with Edward Murrow and CBS. Obviously, you don't read or are not energized enough to see uncropped news reels, current nondemocrat controlled papers, etc.You are accepting McCarthy as the left succeeded in creating him just as Will, Charles K, and Greenburg. There was a real McCarthy and it is not the one existing in thoughless memory today.

The Chairman of the House Committee Investigating Un-American Activities, Martin Dies, had been unable to get serious progress on the issue of infiltration of the government.
J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the FBI, had been unable to get serious progress on the issue of infiltration of the government.
US Attorney General Francis Biddle had been unable to get serious progress on the issue of infiltration of the government.
Samuel Klaus of the State Department had been unable to get serious progress on the issue of infiltration of the government.
Joe McCarthy, as Chairman of the Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations of the Senate Government Operations Committee, approached the matter head on and came closer to getting the issue moving

J Edgar Hoover controlled congress by keeping secret files on the personal lives of just about every prominent citizen in DC. He even investigated Dr. Martin Luther King for being a communist. This came to light in the 1970's after Hoover retired.

That is as may be, 3129, but that was not the J. Edgar Hoover of the late 40's and early '50's Hoover often said that he had to prevent the politicians from controlling him as they had donew during the period between WW2 and the Korean War.

Samueel Klaus WAS HIMSELF AN AGENT! Small wonder he had been unable to get serious progress on the issue of infiltration of the US Government. And Holder is going to find something wrong with the Holder actions on the New Black Panther Voter Intimidations?

You may be confusing Samuel Klaus with Klaus Fuchs, the Soviet atomic spy, PS2.

Here is an excerpt from http://www.renewamerica.com/columns/vernon/071105 telling the role of Samuel Klaus:
"One of the mysteriously "disappearing" documents was issued in the summer of 1946 by State Department official Samuel Klaus. He fingered Soviet agents and alleged Communist Party members — one of them Alger Hiss — in the Department. He also cited "suspects" and "sympathizers."

Fifty years from now, everyone will agree that Karl Rove committed treason by revealing the identity of CIA "spy" Valerie Plame, tea partiers shouted the N-word at a black congressman and Duke lacrosse players gang-raped a stripper.

Liberals tell whopping lies, and most conservatives can't be bothered to learn history.

In the last few days, we've heard both George Will and Charles Krauthammer, otherwise intelligent people, repeating bogus Democratic talking points about how Joe McCarthy allegedly smeared innocents with false allegations.

These two, and many lesser lights, have invoked the standard liberal calumnies against McCarthy in order...
