Tongue in cheek, mon. But keep in mind that you don't have to be a big CEO to succeed.

@ Galenical, I disagree. Ransom encapsulates the view from the Right of general approbation of big business providing they are not openly caught in corruption with Democrats (Solyndra, GE, et al)

Also, that there is a moral component to the popularly accepted definition of success, is a romantic facade. Everybody knows that in order to succeed, to make an omelet, a few eggs need to be broken.

Not necessarily so RN, All Zeru left out is that one's success is success as long as no one else is hurt. So a man dragging himself into the gutter and that man calling that "success" is fine; as long as no one else was hurt in that process.

To Zeru: Not everyone here is always approbative of JR's opinions. Facts that JR presents stand on their own. This is mostly an opinion piece. Well crafted, but opinion.

I think Ransom writes in the right venue when he writes about the rights of idiots to be idiotic. Let me suggest that the idea I elucidated went right over your head.

If success is only what you call it, then succeeding in plunging into the gutter is equally as good as succeeding in becoming a big CEO.

Success is defined by the individual ... maybe. Or it might by defined through mimesis. For Ransom and his approbative readers, the successful CEO is a definitive example of merited success.

We’re fortunate in this country. Anyone can be born in a log cabin, or a condo in Hawaii, and grow up to become an idiot.

Now before I get hot and bothered emails from people saying things like “I take offense to your language. My son’s an idiot. How do you think this makes me feel?” or this one from “MO”: “I married an idiot. And we struggle every day because his disability,” please understand that I don’t discriminate against idiots.

No, not at all; I have voted for plenty of them.

Because we are also a tad...
