Obama never earned th title bigot because he always supported equal right for gays, even if he preferred to call it something else. If you don't at least support civil unions, you are a bigot. Own your ugliness. Don't try to paint yourself and the President as having the same position. You never have.

As always, when looking for the answer to today's problems, one should start with the Founding Fathers, whho based their politics partly on Enlightenment theories (which we now know were completely erroneous) and partly on personal experience and history. And the Founders considered that homosexuals had the right, equally with anyone else, to be hanged if discovered committing sodomy. One of the great Anglo-Catholic thinkers described Leftism as "an unceasing war against everything normal." I would add; "by the abnormal." I see the Democratic Party as basically an alliance among the abnormal and the completely alien against normal society.

Robert, Jesus was not a Liberal. Liberalism, by definition, seeks to liberate itself with anything that binds, from right reason, from truth, any truth that must be sought outside oneself to be found, from law, any law that does not somehow stem from oneself. The Liberal makes up his own truth in his own mind. And he is his own god. In order to be saved by Christ, one must submit to him. The exact opposite of Liberalism.

More generally, one has to corporate with grace to be saved by it.

Obama's Honesty on Same-Sex Marriage Long Overdue

President Barack Obama emerged from his ideological closet last week when he said, "Same-sex couples should be able to get married." Obama supported same-sex marriage in 1996. He opposed same-sex marriage, however, in 2004 and 2008 and right up until Vice President Joe Biden announced that he is "absolutely comfortable" with same-sex nuptials on "Meet the Press" May 6. Thus, I would categorize the president's position on same-sex marriage not as having evolved, as he claims, but as a long overdue moment of honesty.
