Your vision of chaos is Justice Brandeis' vision of 50 laboratories of democracy - where federalism allows that "a single courageous State may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country..." It is not a disgrace, it is a blessing - that we can have the choice to live in a state like Texas and avoid ones like Illinois, New York or California.
Let's exclude all income from all Americans from social security. That would be freedom! Raise the elgibility year by five years every 10 years until no more is being paid and and, more importantly, no more is being stolen from our paychecks and our employers.

Liberals never redefine themselves to make sure that God-fearing, patriotic Americans are included. Conservatives should not redefine themselves to make sure that those holding questionable values about traditional marriage and think that government should play a larger role in our lives should be included. If conservatives are so inclusive, why did they throw Todd Akins under the bus for having an opinion that was somewhat different, but not antithetical to fundamental conservative values?

The first time I heard Mr. Boortz, he was describing how he saw a lady dump the ash tray out of her car as he was watching from his office window. He went down and super-glued the butts to her front window so she wouldn't lose them. I've been a fan ever since. I disagree with Neal's views on legalizing drugs, but really like his small government positions, especially the work that he did trying to push the Fair Tax.

Did Americans study the Italian or Polish languages to help those people assimilate - assuming that is the goal? I will not spend a single moment learning the Spanish language or trying to understand their culture. They should all be fervently studying the English language and our history unless they want to remain serfs or create a Northern Mexico.

We should change the way that we do primaries. Have the state that voted with the largest percentage of republican votes be the first state in the primaries - not Iowa and New Hampshire. Let the democrats have the same schedule. Instead of getting the conservative candidates picked through by Iowa and New Hampshire - and whoever else wants to rush to the head of the line, let the states earn their right to be first in the primaries by being the reddest or bluest states, respectively, for the republicans or democrats. Then let the "moderates" pick from the candidates that the strong republican or democrat states have left standing, not the wishy-washy moderates that "moderate" states think would be okay for the rest of the country.

Akin and His Critics

Thirty years ago when I was in college I was taught that women that are raped are in a state of trauma and it is much less likely that they will become pregnant (though not impossible). Before conservatives act without understanding (based on anecdotal and politically correct notions like liberals), we should take time to see if what he was saying was indeed true and counter with the truth not defensively out of fear. I applaud Mona for asking conservatives to stop and understand the truth before acting irrationally.
