The characterization of the supporters of the O as "stupid" is more than sufficient, as stupid in this case means "intractably ignorant". That intractability can be for any number of reasons - like educators grading "brilliant" even intellectually challenged scholastic submissions, cultured arrogance, lack of meaningful competition, or even just plain cognitive degeneracy, to name a very few. My own comment was going to be "Because they are stupidity personified", same thing as yours, but you made me think more on it. Thanks for the good comment and lead.

Your concept of God is superficial. He does not force behavior on us, nor outcomes, nor devotion to Him or His principles. That which you state as proof there is no God is only evidence that few have the courage, insight, and faith to follow Him. You are lacking the insight, at least, in not perceiving this. On the other hand, you have plenty of company, from which I do not necessarily exclude myself.
On the political correctness issue, ANY such deviation from common sense is too much. The sticking point becomes in how common sense is formed if all perception of reality is distorted by an environment of sensory and life experience detachment brought on us by our "entertainment" media. Many think the attitude-building sensory input they receive from media is "real" or reality based, when it is far, far from that standard. The society needs to pull the plug on TV and excessive entertainment.
