Most of the news media want to be Pravda and Tass, the information source that people have to depend on because government controls their lives and they have to constantly buy their papers and watch their shows to know about the next disaster coming. It is Bill Murray's character in Scrooged writ large. They love big government because it makes big news. The truth is most people could live without knowing most of the news. Which is why newspapers are folding (pun intended).

Only our totally unbiased watchdog media could turn the burning of U.S. embassies in countries where Barack Obama had recently supported mob revolts into Mitt Romney's blunder. Journalists couldn't risk having Obama's campaign slogan "Osama is dead" being amended with "and so is our ambassador."
