You are an optimist. What makes you think anything will change? Republicans will not exercise fiscal control any more than Democrats. All politicians have their agenda and it is not for the public's benefit. Our founders did not contemplate modern politicians that pander the the lazy and irresponsible. They did worry about a true democracy and made us a republic but failed see the future need for term limits and a prohibition for federal public charity and to prohibit public funded retirement for elected officials.
It’s been a year and half since the GOP and Democrats hammered out an agreement that raised the debt ceiling and put us on the lip of a fiscal cliff, threatening mutually assured destruction if a budget deal wasn’t worked out before January 2013.
It made sense for all sides at the time.
