I'm not going to argue with you that solar thing was a bust and from all accounts they never should have invested. However, without investments like that we would never of discovered DNA or the internet; also, right now R&D investments are very low and should be increased if anything. That was big screw up but the basic idea is still sound. As far as the stimulus, from all accounts from the republican side it worked. There are dozens of republicans with quotes in their home districts passing checks for projects saying how it will help that community. I agree with you conservatives need to be there to step in when things go crazy but right now spending needs to be increased not cut. Just look at the state of US schools.

they have to live in the most dangerous areas and attend the worst schools. Do you think that the current government can help solve these problems without raising taxes?

You make a valid argument about how the taxes are used and in some cases their use may do nothing to help the rich or the poor. I also agree there should always be a conservative group to try to keep excessive government spending in check. However, I think in the current climate the country needs to spend more money on it's people, mainly in education and police. So expanding the government employment could be great if it was on the right departments. I am from the U.K and their government spending went to far and they rightly elected a conservative government to rain things in. America on the other hand is falling apart due to a lack of effective spending and effects the poor more than the rich...

First of all, half of Americans do not pay income taxes but they still pay federal payroll taxes that fund Social Security and Medicare, and excise taxes on gasoline, aviation, alcohol and cigarettes. Many also pay state or local taxes on sales, income and property. So they are not getting a free People higher more workers when their is more demand so they can make more money. It's not smart to hire people unless they help you make more money. Thats why I don't but this whole "job creator" argument. The rich get that way of the backs or the middle and lower classes and there is nothing wrong with that. However, in modern society's the rich pay a toll to help better the rest of the community so more can follow his/her path to success.

I disagree with your presumption that when the rich get richer so does everyone else. Of course I think successful people should be able to keep enough of their money that they can live a lavish lifestyle. However, I also think a society is judged on how much they can bring up the bottom and not how high a few have reached. Personally I think the tax rate is unbelievably low right now for the wealthy, especially when compared to other developed nations. America is in a situation where they have an elite group who have climbed up the ladder and are trying to take the it with them. Leaving the rest uneducated, unprotected and uninsured.
