The original comment was a "platoon of Marines." The military does not have a domestic mission. Only the National Guard has the authority to act within the boundaries of each State and only the Governor can call the National Guard to service. The President does not have the authority to call up the National Guard. In all the examples named below, National Guardsmen operating under the authority of the state governor were deployed as part of the state militia. In Mississ Federal Marshals and Border Patrol Agents were used as a backup to the Naitonal Guard . To say a platoon of Marines is coming to your door is nothing more than Hollywood meme.

Last week as a last hoorah, Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta lifted the ban on women serving combat even though women have been serving in combat for quite some time. Now, a new Rasmussen Report shows 59 percent of voters favor women serving in full combat positions.

Most voters think women in the military should be able to fight in combat just like men do. But they still believe overwhelmingly that women need to pass the same physical tests as men if they’re in special forces like the Green Berets and Navy SEALs.
