You are confusing equal opportunity with equal, or guaranteed, outcome. Equal outcome attempts to level the playing field by raising up the poor at the expense of the more affluent. It breeds an entitlement mentality amongst the poor who expect the govt to take care of their every need, and it provides a disincentive for the producers in society to work hard when they see the fruits of their labor stolen to give to the people who do not have the same abilities or drive as they. Equal opportunity, as envisioned by the Founding Fathers, meant that govt would attempt to level the playing field by removing any impediments that prevent the individual from becoming the best that their skills and drive allow them to be.
