Here's the latest "script" on how cities/counties get stadiums built. This just happened in Santa Clara, CA, future "home" of the 49ers. First, the city tried to pass the stadium issues through the city council. When "too many" opponents showed up, they decided to go with a ballot initiative. The ballot initiative only authorized the city to spend no more than approx. $178M. It passed. Long story short, city "leaders" just signed an "agreement" with the NFL to take full responsibility for the repayment of over $1B in loans for a mini-stadium (only 50,000 seats?!?). Our current annual city budget is $560M. Politicians are nothing if not reckless optimists with other people's money. Let's hope Murphy's Law.takes a vacation.

Never trust politicians to negotiate with jocks; the jocks will win millions of taxpayer dollars and embarrass fans by losing games.

I didn’t always feel opposition to public stadiums; I enjoy attending live sporting events; I like wearing my NFL, NHL and MLB gear and rooting for my favorite teams. But I’m not buying the “Stadiums create jobs!” chant anymore. Here’s why:

1.) Caving To Jocks

Politicians care more about looking cool in front of jocks than representing their constituents. Case in point: The new Vikings Stadium.
