The federal government has been violating the people's right to keep and bear arms for most of the 20th century. They didn't pass an amendment to override or nullify the 2nd Amendment, they simply passed the National Firearms Act. It's been updated numerous times. It's in direct violation of the 2nd Amendment and the federal government did it right in front of the people - in the name of protecting them. The people believed that the government was just doing what was best and the protests were not sufficient to get lawmakers to repeal the law. So here we are. We're not defenseless, but we're pretty close. If Obama and his ilk get their way we will be completely disarmed and will be completely defenseless against a tyranny.
The gun control controversy is only the latest of many issues to be debated almost solely in terms of fixed preconceptions, with little or no examination of hard facts.

Media discussions of gun control are dominated by two factors: the National Rifle Association and the Second Amendment. But the over-riding factual question is whether gun control laws actually reduce gun crimes in general or murder rates in particular.

If, as gun control advocates claim, gun control laws really do control guns and save lives, there is nothing to prevent repealing the Second Amendment, any more than there was anything to prevent repealing the...
