I think we are all in favor of decreasing health care costs but we fear the inevitable hidden cost of an inefficient government provider backed by the seizure of taxes from its constituency. There is an easy solution that will never be thought of, let alone enacted, in our legislature - no tax revenues may be used in the running of the government- sponsored insurance provider. Set up the "company" as a not-for-profit entity and allow it to compete for customers. Use the ultra-large set of government employees (Congress included, that you very much) as an automatic base of customers to eliminate the slow burn-in period of attracting clients.
